Growing Up Zin
Showing the Colors
Harvest has already started in Napa and Sonoma.
But it's just another year for Zinfandel. Veraison has started and we're putting less water on the vines and the basal leaves have dropped.
Honestly, it was hard to find a cluster like this one. The bunches look more like multi-colored Christmas decorations. You might also notice that some of the berries are bigger. It’s all part of growing up Zin. White grape growers get none of this. Not a single color-changing personality crisis in the bunch. Sad for them.
Give it a few weeks and the whole vineyard will go from green to almost-black - and sweet as candy. But there’s always a few green berries that never grow up. It’s relatable, honestly.
